Touchstone Foundation opens a community central kitchen in Sri City

Sri City, June 16, 2020: Touchstone Foundation, an independent charitable trust associated with the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISCON), Bangalore, opened a community central kitchen for serving breakfast and lunch to corporate population in Sri City, on a daily basis. Named as ‘Govinda Foods’, the facility manages operations from a single point of control; including receiving, storage, preparation, delivery, maintenance, among other processes that form the cycle of food preparation.

Mrs. Bh. Vimala Kumari, Dy. SP, Sri City inaugurated the kitchen in the presence of Kaunteya Dasa ji, Chief Operating Officer, Touchstone Foundation, Mr. Ravindra Sannareddy, Founder MD, Sri City, and a host of senior executives of industrial units.

Welcoming the guests Kaunteya Dasa ji briefed on the salient features of the central kitchen and mentioned that the profit gained from the service will be utilised for the charity schemes run by Akshaya Patra, an ISCKON-backed non-profit organisation.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Ravindra Sannareddy said,”This is our long cherished desire to have a facility of this kind that supplies hygienic and quality food at affordable cost, not only to the corporate community but also to the general public in and around Sri City. With the presence of Govinda Foods, I am sure that no one would go hungry here.” He appealed all the stakeholders to utilise the services of Govinda Foods and patronise it for its sustainability. He advised the organisers to plan for increasing the production capacity as there will be a good demand.

Similar to Akshaya Patra, Govinda Foods is equipped with cauldrons, trolleys, rice chutes, dal/sambar tanks, cutting boards, knives and other similar equipment that are sanitised before usage. The semi-automated kitchens have the capacity to undertake large scale feeding, typically up to 10,000 breakfast and lunches a day, ensuring safe handling, preparation and delivery of the food. After cooking, the food is packed into stainless steel containers and loaded into custom made food distribution vehicles, to be taken to the industrial units.

Touchstone Foundation has been involved in various ventures to generate the funds required for sustaining ISCKON’s charitable initiatives. Govinda Foods in Sri City is one such venture.
