Sri City, December 8, 2018:- At the Economic Times Food Processing and Packaging Summit, held during 6th – 7th December 2018 in New Delhi, the veterans in food industry widely appreciated Mondelez’s bold idea of employing rural women in its Sri City plant. The summit was aimed at delivering strategic insights and key learnings on critical aspects within the food processing and packaging landscape, by bringing together the industry veterans.
Mr. P Krishna Chaitanya, People Expert, Mondelez India, Sri City presented a case study titled ‘A Success Story – SuperWomen@Sricity – Transforming Lives’ at the two-days summit. He spoke about the inspiring story of the SuperWomen, who were just high school grads from rural areas across Andhra Pradesh with no industrial experience, and highlighted how they operate the most advanced machines with complete ownership & confidence. Mr. Chaitanya illustrated how their lives and families got transformed.
The gender diversity at the Mondelez factory is remarkable. It has shown that gender parity and equality can be achieved in industrial settings with a little thought and effort. When the plant was set up three years ago, the company set out to build a factory floor with equal representation of women. Accordingly, now of the 300 employees on the shop floor, 50 percent are women, hailing from villages in and around Andhra Pradesh. “It was a bold assignment experimented, and we are very happy for its success and for creating impact, ” says Mr. Sandeep Talgaonkar, Plant Lead.
Commenting that Mondelez’s thoughtful measures make the women employees to feel it as a safe and welcoming workplace, Mr. Ravindra Sannareddy, Founder Managing Director said, “Their inclusive, non-discriminatory, employee-oriented practices have enabled, encouraged, and empowered women to work in a progressive environment.”
Last month Mondelez India’s Sri City plant bagged ‘Best Companies for women’ award from the Chennai-based AVTAR Group and US-based gender parity champion ‘Working Mother Media’.
