Srikalahasti is a temple town located on the banks of the Swarnamukhi river, about 60 km north of Sri City. The town is the site of an ancient temple dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva. The temple, renowned for its unique architecture, has three main gopurams or towers, and a large mantap (main worship area) supported by around 100 pillars. The temple was built before the Tirupati Tirumala Temple during the reign of King Krishnadevaraya of Vijayanagar, and to this day remains an important place of Hindu pilgrimage.
Srikalahasti is also home to an ancient free hand textile art form called Kalamkari, which is used to design popular fabrics and garments.
