Blue Star Climatech breaks ground for its production unit in Sri City

Sri City, September 29, 2021: – M/s Blue Star Climatech Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Blue Star Ltd., held groundbreaking ceremony in Sri City on Wednesday, marking the start of construction of its plant for manufacturing air-conditioners (AC) and components, as part of the recently announced Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) by the Government of India for promoting domestic manufacturing in the AC manufacturing sector. B. Thiagarajan, Managing Director, Blue Star, performed foundation laying ceremony in the presence of C.P. Mukundan Menon, President, & Chief Operating Officer and V. Kasbekar, Vice President (Manufacturing), Ravindra Sannareddy, Founder Managing Director, Sri City, and a host of officials of Blue Star and Sri City.

Addressing the gathering Thiagarajan said,“Setting up this Plant is a part of our strategic initiative to significantly scale up our manufacturing operations by investing in world-class, Industry 4.0 manufacturing facilities. Aligning ourselves to the ‘Make in India’ initiative and by leveraging on the PLI scheme, we intend to manufacture certain components in-house at this facility. A firm believer in Aatmanirbhar Bharat, we are well on our trajectory to become the largest Indian manufacturer in the air-conditioning & refrigeration (AC&R) industry.”

Recalling his very first visit to Sri City, Thiagarajan commented,”The infrastructure offered is on par with any world class industrial park, and hence we decided to locate our plant here.”

Speaking on the occasion Ravindra Sannareddy said,“We are very happy to welcome the Homegrown brand Blue Star Ltd, to the Sri City fraternity. Blue Star’s choice to locate their production unit in Sri City, which will be their 6th unit in the country and the very first in Southern India, reiterates the fact that it is an attractive location for the consumer durables industry as well. With the entry of Blue Star, and other AC&R majors like Daikin and two other brands preferring Sri City, a new ecosystem centred on white goods sector is shaping up, and this in turn will generate thousands of jobs for the local youth. This reaffirms that with an inspiring leadership at helm, business friendly environment and a well devised industrial policy at place, Andhra Pradesh remains at the top of mind recall of investors.”

The plant, which will be built in 20 acre land in the Domestic Tariff Zone (DTZ), is expected to be commissioned by October 2022. The plant will be developed in phases at a total investment of around Rs.540 Cr. The total capacity of the plant will be close to 1.2 million and over 1500 people will get employment opportunity. The plant will cater to the Southern markets and will be developed as an environmentally responsible and ecologically sustainable plant.
